I’m pleased to announce that my story, “Saxon and the Stand-Down”, will be appearing in Woodland Press’ forthcoming anthology, Hills of Fire: Bare Knuckle Yarns of Appalachia, edited by Frank Larnerd. Check out the book-blog here and the Facebook page here. More below the cut.
“Saxon and the Stand-Down” sees Pinkerton Detective James ‘Jimmy’ Saxon entering a rough and rowdy coal mining camp on the hunt for a murderous drifter, only to wind up in an old-fashioned, bare knuckle Irish stand-down with said drifter while an angry crowd of coal miners looks on. It’s a brutal little story and much like a proper stand-down, has little room for anything but a knockdown, drag-out fight.
The anthology is scheduled for release in mid-October. However, while you’re waiting, why not check out other Woodland Press anthologies, like Specters in Coal-Dust and Mountain Magic: Spellbinding Tales of Appalachia?
Love that cover. It looks very Tarantino-esque.
It’s got an old fashioned ’70’s feel to it, doesn’t it?
